Why I Became a Financial Advisor

whyibecameafinancialadvisorI like to think that business runs in my blood. I grew up in a family business and I loved the interactions we had with our clients. They weren’t just paying customers to us. They were friends and people we valued and wanted to succeed.

This exposure to the business world piqued my interest in money and finance from a young age. I was fascinated by the economic effects money had on people’s lives and values. Along with a natural knack for math, I strongly felt that I could help people with something that is so important in their lives.

This intuition helped me make the decision to pursue a career in financial services. After several years working in our family business and creating the financial plans for several of our independent businesses, I took a leap of faith and became a financial advisor. I haven’t looked back since.

My Role Today

Today, I’m an independent financial advisor with nearly 15 years of experience in financial services under my belt. Not only am I an advisor, but I’m also a business owner, running my own firm, Black Spruce Financial. I like to think of my firm as The Independent for Independents®. I understand the needs of business owners because I was raised in a family business myself and I’ve always been an independent business owner.

In the simplest of terms, I help business owners, professionals and individuals achieve their financial goals. This is done through assessing their financial needs and opportunities, reducing their taxable income, and improving their overall sense of security and future goals and objectives.

And because I know how important family is to my clients, I also help them with their personal financial needs. Through my wealth management services, I seek to help protect and grow my clients’ assets, offering guidance in investment planning, insurance planning, tax planning, estate planning, and retirement planning.

My Commitment

Through my services, my goal is to serve as a business owner’s go-to source for unbiased advice and personalized recommendations. My firm’s values lie in our principles that our interests come last and the client’s interests come first.

While there are certainly challenges to simultaneously running a business and serving as an advisor, I can’t imagine any other career. It’s incredibly fulfilling to help a client see their life plan through, and there’s nothing more gratifying than seeing these clients and their family thank me for looking after their own interests over the course of our relationship.
